Tooth bonding is a cosmetic dentistry treatment used to change the shape of your teeth. Some people have teeth that have jagged edges or missing sides, and a tooth bonding procedure can fix that. Here’s what you can expect if you decide to have a tooth bonding procedure done:
Select a shade - Your dentist needs to match the color of your teeth to the composite resin material they are using for your tooth bonding procedure. Composite resin is made up of nontoxic plastic and glass.
Preparing your teeth - Your dentist will then apply a conditioning liquid to your teeth to prepare them for the resin. The conditioner will help the resin stick to your teeth during your tooth-bonding procedure.
Applying resin - The next step is to put the resin on the tooth or teeth that need to be reshaped. Resin is a very pliable material that can be shaped and sized to the desire of each patient.
Curing the material - The curing process is done by applying a special light to the tooth being reshaped using the resin material. The light bonds the resin to the patient’s tooth, which is why the procedure is called tooth bonding.
Polishing your tooth - The final step of the tooth bonding procedure is adding some shine to your tooth. If any other adjustments need to be made your dentist will make them as well. The tooth bonding process will take about 30 to 60 minutes to complete on each tooth.
